As we all know, the end is near for award shows. Just as of last year, The Emmy’s saw a record-low viewership, with only 10.2 million individuals tuning in. The dramatic decrease represents that award show fans are now resorting to the internet or live streams on social media platforms to obtain their information. So, I am here to give you the inside scoop on what went down at the 2019 Golden Globes.
Like any award show, the night began with A-list celebrities taking on the red carpet to show off this year’s hottest looks. While some looked picture perfect in their designer elaborate gowns, several took the concept of “making a statement” way too far. Leaving the celebs who broke out the feathers, ruffles, and sparkles on the worst-dressed list.
Best-Dressed List
1. Lady Gaga
Several predicted Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from “A Star is Born” to sweep the Golden Globes dry. While the hit film was snubbed this year, Lady Gaga came out a winner and most importantly a fashion icon. Gaga received the award for “The Best Original Song” for her hit tune “Shallow.” She expressed her gratitude towards her team and fans in an outrageously stunning Valentino statement gown. The Elsa inspired get-up features on-trend off-the-shoulder puffer sleeves and a train that goes on for days. Gaga never seems to disappoint us, and it is clear that she’s making 2019 her year!
2. Constance Wu
Constance Wu, an American actress that is best known for her role in the ABC series “Crazy Rich Asians,” graced the red carpet in her custom Vera Wang ball gown. The nude corset gown is an excellent balance between sexy, yet classy. Her minimum jewelry, up-do hairstyle, and the elegant velvet orange bow left everyone speechless.
3. Sofia Carson
The “Descendants” actress, Sofia Carson, made a fierce entrance into the Golden Globes wearing Giambattista Valli. Whether it was her bold red lips, diamond geometric dress design, or her Steller ballet bun, the star quickly became a showstopper on the red carpet.
4. Julia Roberts
Hollywood superstar, Julia Roberts knows just how to get people talking. While many can’t decide whether the star wanted to wear pants or a gown, her ensemble made quite a statement this year. The one-shoulder Stella McCartney design gives off a chic, yet professional vibe that more celebs should test out!
Worst-Dressed List
1. Anne Hathaway
Actress Anne Hathaway is well-known for turning heads in the entertainment industry since she was Mia Thermopolis in “The Princess Diaries.” Although, “all publicity, is good publicity” her outfit choice for the 2019 Golden Globes have people shook to the core. Although the leopard has been selling off the racks this season, Hathaway’s Misguided Eli Saab gown did not grace the red carpet in the most gratifying way and had people talking up a storm.
2. Kate Mara
Kate Mara, the “House of Cards” actress and model, usually keeps its simple. Yet, this year she took the red carpet hoping to make a statement. While she made a statement all right, she has been receiving backlash for her unflattering babydoll silhouette, Mara’s Moschino look. From the cheesy embellishments to her infinity ponytail, the look was not on point.
3. Debra Messing
“Will and Grace” star, Debra Messing walked out on the red carpet wearing a Pamella Roland statement dress. Although this gown has potential, Messing could’ve used tailoring and perhaps a closed toe heel. While “Will & Grace” has been nominated throughout the years for a Golden Globe, they have never won. Though the A-list star typically takes home the win for best-dressed, this time around it’s a total lose, lose situation. Better luck next year!
4. Lucy Liu
Actress and director, Lucy Liu rolled into the Golden Globes in a nude-colored Galia Lahav gown. With no hesitation, I had to place her on the worst-dressed list. From the neon sparkle detailing to the sheer overlay, this dress did not leave a ground-breaking impression for fashion-goers that are seeking inspiration.
