The color black has always been my ultimate go-to when I am styling my outfits. Black fashion pieces are chic, comfortable, versatile and could be worn year round. However, many people would disagree, but if you wear it correctly, you could make a fabulous fashion statement. While summer is associated with vibrant cool colors and lightweight fabrics, you can’t forget about your favorite black staples in your closet. Yes, the color black is hard to style in the heat and many fashionistas would put away their black jeans or little black dresses when temperatures rise. However, I think I came up with a solution to looking fab in black when the sun is out to play. Here are some tips on how to wear dark shades in the summer!
More Black, Less Fabric
The color black tends to attract and absorb the sun. So, wearing your heavy black winter pieces wouldn’t be a great idea. I find the best way to wear black in the summer is to keep it simple with lightweight linen, loose dresses, off the shoulder blouses, and basic crop tops.
Add a Bold Black Accessory to a Light Get-Up
Adding a bold black accessory to a light-colored dress or skirt creates a sharp contrast that works flawlessly. For example, incorporate a handbag, belt, sunglasses, or statement jewelry to bring out the light colors or patterns of your outfit.
Black Dress with a Bright Shoe
Are you looking to avoid the dreary tones of winter? Well, add a pop of color to your little black dress. Adding an unexpected pop of pastel or a bright pair of shoes will bring the right amount of color to a dark outfit.
Incorporate Black with a Subtle Print
I am not much of a pattern girl, but I absolutely LOVE how white and black patterns look in the summer. Add a summery print to your favorite year-round black piece.
What I’m Wearing
With the exception of blue jeans here and there, I am usually head-to-toe in black. Black leggings, black jeans, black belts, I love it all. However, recently I took a chance and styled my new favorite charcoal black cargo pants from LF Stores with a white off the shoulder zip up crop top. I completed this look with black and white lace-up heels and a Fanny Pack from Charlotte Russe.
Why You Should Wear Cargo Pants
The latest cringe-worthy 90s’ trend is making a significant comeback, and you must jump on the bandwagon! Back in the day, our favorite celebrities like Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani would rock this Kim Possible inspired pants and made them look sexy, yet edgy. Therefore, I dodged the bullet and tried out these rockin’ pants while I was in Chicago. My wide-leg black cargo pants could be worn year-round and are extremely comfortable.
